Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior official said the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
