The anticipation about The Game Awards was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be building a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
